“Of all the people who deserve credit for making No Doubt’s return tour such a giddy success, singer Gwen Stefani’s trainer merits extra kudos. As Stefani took the Gibson Amphitheatre stage, women in the audience gasped at the impeccable tone of her abdominal muscles, less than a year after giving birth to her second child.” – Los Angeles Times
Katie Barnes began her transformational fitness and Pilates work with Gwen in 2007, training the rock star throughout pregnancy and into post-baby shape for the 2009 No Doubt reunion tour, and beyond. Gwen’s phenomenal physique, total athleticism onstage, and boundless energy showed what is possible for women after age 40, and how following the right exercise routine and nutrition plan can create results that are spectacular…and lasting.
Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Katie was involved in competitive tennis, field hockey, long-distance running, and dance from a young age. But her gift for classical ballet changed everything when she landed a full-time professional scholarship to the Royal New Zealand National Ballet School.
Katie’s time in professional ballet led her to studying Pilates, discovering that the Method was a special type of exercise that could heal injuries, correct muscle imbalances, eliminate lower back, hip and knee pain, while improving the physical ability of athletes and everyday people.
With her unique experience of training as an athlete, combined with an innate ability to teach movement, Katie left her dance career to certify as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor in Sydney, Australia. Within seven years, she moved to Los Angeles to accept work opportunities and to complete a Master Pilates instructor program.
Working for 20 years with celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, The Avett Bros., Matchbox 20, Jamie Cullum, and Sophie Dahl, busy executives, and Fortune 500 clientele, Katie’s expertise across the complete range of fitness genres, in addition, has often led to training her client’s spouse, along with other family members.
Katie lives in Nashville with her long-time love, Ryan. After more than decade in Los Angeles, they feel so lucky to have found a new place to call home, in Music City.
